| Flight Efficiency Management & Information System (FEMIS)
Identify flight deviations to increase operational efficiency and reduce costs
Flight Comparison and Analysis
Monitoring flight efficiency is key to any airline's success. With FEMIS (Flight Efficiency Management &
Information System), airlines can gain immediate access to in-depth operational information to assess
the efficiency of their daily flight operations. FEMIS compares optimal flight plans against actual flight
results, which enables operators to identify deviations and possible causes, and therefore potential
savings. Applying information learned from analysis provides new ways to improve flight safety and
increase overall operational efficiency.
Jointly developed and supported by Teledyne Controls and Airbus, FEMIS supports the collection, storage
and analysis of operational flight data through a web-based interface. This allows operators of different
aircraft types to easily sort and compare flight plan results in areas of operational, technical, ATC and
environmental deviations. Those deviations, which highlight procedural and aircraft performance
inefficiencies, can then be adjusted to establish a highly-efficient and cost-effective operation.
Flight Planning Management
As a powerful data mining tool, FEMIS gathers a wide variety of aircraft, fleet and operational
performance data in a central database and translates it into meaningful information for analysis.
This extensive information can be sorted by scheduled departure and arrival time, flight and aircraft,
allowing operators to easily monitor flight planning accuracy, payload predictions, fuel data, and the
cost variations associated with observed deviations. Analyzing performance results leads to better
decision making when adjusting flight taxi procedures, fuel burn, flight scheduling and ATC negotiations
for preferred flight level assignments, which results in more accurate flight planning predictions.
Reduced Fuel Consumption
Primarily designed to assist airlines with cost saving measures due to volatile oil prices, FEMIS provides
comprehensive fuel-burn information for monitoring block fuel, alternate fuel, taxi fuel time, and fuel
waste due to departure and arrival delays. Operators can also monitor the variations in fuel costs for
different routes. The impact of fuel procedures alone can greatly affect the conservation and efficiency
of fuel usage. It's critical for airlines to manage the most efficient fuel-burn rates possible, and by
monitoring fuel processes and fuel burn rates closely, significant cost savings can be experienced.
Data Transfer and Analysis
When FEMIS is used with Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink® Quick Access Recorder (WQAR),
aircraft data can be wirelessly and automatically transferred to the airline's ground facility for
immediate processing, allowing the operator to quickly identify and adjust deviations and improve
the quality of their flight planning system.
