Teledyne Controls' Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) provides flight crew members with a robust and user friendly information system designed to replace the traditional cumbersome flight bag, therefore reducing weight and clutter in the cockpit. Considered a Portable Electronic Device (PED), Teledyne's EFB II offers an easy to deploy solution that can be used in all phases of flight, improving access to crucial information for the flight crew.
Each Class 2 EFB system consists of a Processor Unit (PU) and its associated mount, a Display Unit (DU)
and its associated mount, and a PU to DU interconnecting cable.
There are two EFB systems installed per aircraft (one each in the Captain and FO position). The
EFB is based on standard PC component architecture and utilizes the Microsoft Windows OS. The two
EFBs the are networked together to facilitate inter-device/application data transfer and collaborative
functions. Each EFB can be networked through Teledyne Controls' AirLAN (Aircraft Local Area Network) system.
The AirLAN system provides wired Ethernet connectivity and a certified interface to the aircraft ARINC
429 data bus.
