Teledyne Controls and Decrane Aircraft Holdings Sign Letter of Intent to Provide Services for e-CABIN.Connect
LOS ANGELES - November 26, 2001 - Teledyne Controls has received FAA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) for the Wireless GroundLink™ Quick Access Recorder (WGL-QAR) installation on Boeing B737 aircraft. This is the first FAA issued Supplemental Type Certificate for this new technology. The Wireless GroundLink™ Quick Access Recorder has also been flying on Qantas' 747-400 since July of this year.
Teledyne Controls' WWGL-QAR provides several enhancements to the typical quick access recorder function with the inclusion of multiple cellular/PCS modules. The use of automatic, wireless data transfer eliminates the need to manually remove media, or manually transfer data from the recorder. This greatly reduces the effort required to process data, avoids the typical 10%-15% data loss experienced by operators due to media handling, and provides for more timely data analysis. The use of the existing (and rapidly evolving) cellular/PCS data networks eliminates the need for the installation of dedicated infrastructure on the airport property and the associated capital costs. The technology of the WGL-QAR can be further enhanced through a subscription to the Teledyne Data Delivery Service and to the Teledyne Data Processing Service. This combination reduces the need for capital and resource expenditures associated with the implementation of Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) and/or Maintenance Operations Quality Assurance (MOQA) programs.
The WGL-QAR records data on standard Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA) ATA flash memory cards, and includes numerous interface provisions for growth, including ARINC 429 receivers and transmitters, serial ports (RS-232/422/485) and Ethernet.
