High Speed Data Satcom, HSD-128 Takes Flight
LOS ANGELES - May 17, 2002- Teledyne Controls, a Teledyne Technologies Incorporated company (NYSE: TDY) and EMS Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ - ELMG) have announced the successful flight test of the Teledyne / EMS' - High Speed Data (HSD) Satcom product onboard a Dassault FalconJet 900EX aircraft. The four-hour flight took place at the Dassault Falcon Jet Production Facility in Little Rock, Arkansas.
The HSD-128 is Dassault's first available stand-alone HSD Satcom featuring two independent channels, each capable of uncompressed 64Kbps symmetric bandwidth using the Inmarsat Swift64 Service. During the test flight, real-time Internet browsing and e-mail communications were validated at an average reported rate of 50Kbps per channel using a personal laptop computer. ISDN voice (64Kbps), low-speed voice (4.8Kbps) and mixed functions (simultaneous voice and data calls) were also successfully tested.
Unlike other multiple box solutions being offered, the HSD-128 is a single LRU system offering full Satcom functionality in a lighter-weight package. It does not require the use of a stand-alone HPA when integrated to other ARINC 741 Satcom Systems.
Offered exclusively by Teledyne Controls to the General and Business Aviation market, the HSD-128 is manufactured by EMS Technologies, a world leader in Satcom terminals and antenna technology. HSD Satcom is an integral part of Teledyne's Airborne Executive Office product line, which also includes the MagnaStar® airborne digital telephone, Wireless GroundLinkTM, cabin printer/fax, wireless network access points and the Airborne E-Server.
The equipment installed on the Falcon 900EX consists of the HSD-128 single-box High Speed Data solution
(8 MCU package) integrated with the EMS Technologies AMT-50 High-Gain Antenna System. This configuration provides users with High Speed Data capability without introducing unnecessary space and weight penalties.
Teledyne's Airborne Executive Office provides an airborne environment equivalent to that which is expected in the terrestrial office. HSD Satcom provides global digital geo-stationary satellite communications with 25 times the speed and efficiency (per channel) of previous airborne Satcom systems.
