Teledyne Controls Avionics Selected for new British Airways A319/A320 Fleet
LOS ANGELES, CA – British Airways has selected
Teledyne Controls, a Teledyne Technologies company (NYSE: TDY),
to provide Flight Data Interface Management
Units (FDIMU), encompassing 3 functions within a single unit (mandatory,
engine / aircraft condition monitoring, and flight data recording), for
their new Airbus narrow-bodied fleet. This fleet includes 39 A319, and 20
A320 aircraft, with options for up to 129 additional aircraft.
The FDIMU is a new system architecture of data acquisition
and recording on Airbus aircraft which combines multiple traditionally
separate functions into one system. Teledyne, through its concept of Line
Replaceable Unit (LRU) CompressionTM , provides
this FDIMU that combines the functions of the Flight Data Interface Unit
(FDIU – mandatory data acquisition), the Data Management Unit (DMU –
engine / aircraft condition monitoring) and the Data Access Recorder (DAR
– maintenance / FOQA data recording) into a single LRU system.
The FDIMU is a multi processor system which will function
as either a two function (DMU: ACMS and DAR) or three function (FDIMU:
mandatory recording, ACMS and DAR) unit, depending on the configuration of
the aircraft. The unit can be installed as a stand-alone FDIMU on new
aircraft, or can replace the DMU + DAR (the mandatory function is
inhibited) on aircraft already equipped with a FDIU.
