Teledyne Controls Avionics Selected for New Boeing Business Jet

LOS ANGELES, CA - The Boeing Company has selected Teledyne Controls, A Teledyne Technologies company (NYSE: TDY), to provide flight data acquisition units and airborne data loaders for the new Boeing Business Jet.

The Boeing Business Jet, a derivative of Boeing's next-generation 737-700 aircraft, marks Boeing's entry into the business jet market. Initial deliveries of the new aircraft with Teledyne Controls’ digital flight data acquisition units (DFDAU) and airborne data loader (ADL) are scheduled to begin in late 1998.

The DFDAU is designed to acquire aircraft data via digital data bus or analog inputs, and format it for output to the mandatory Flight Data Recorder in accordance with requirements of regulatory agencies. In addition, the unit can perform full Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS) functions / reports, such as exceedence reports, long-term trend data reports and aircraft / engine monitoring. The unit is intended to provide for the acquisition of real-time data, to process and format that data, and to transmit it to ground stations via ACARS.

The new DFDAU is an enhancement of the Teledyne Controls line of data acquisition systems. The flight data acquisition system provides for not only the mandatory and ACMS functions, but also has a 640 MB Optical Quick Access Recorder integral to the unit.

The ADL is a high-speed data loader that provides digital data interchange between airborne and ground based computers via standard 3.5" HD (1.44MB) MS-DOS compatible media. The ADL serves as a removable mass storage device used by multiple airborne computers, and can load navigation databases and operational flight programs.
