Teledyne Controls Selected By DaimlerChrysler Aerospace Airbus to Supply the FDIMU for the A330, A340 Familiest
Los Angeles, CA -- Teledyne Controls, a business unit
of Teledyne Electronics and Communications, a Teledyne Technologies company
(NYSE:TDY), has been selected by DaimlerChrysler Aerospace-Airbus to
supply the Flight Data Interface and Management Units (FDIMU) on the
A330/A340 aircraft, beginning with the introduction of the A340-500/600
planned for 2002.
The FDIMU is a new system architecture of data acquisition and
recording on Airbus aircraft which combines multiple traditionally
separate functions into one system. Teledyne, through its concept of Line
Replaceable Unit (LRU) Compression, provides this FDIMU that combines the
functions of the Flight Data Interface Unit (FDIU – mandatory data
acquisition), the Data Management Unit (DMU – engine/aircraft condition
monitoring) and the Data Access Recorder (DAR – maintenance/FOQA data
recording) into a single LRU system.
The FDIMU is a multi processor system which will function as either a
two function (DMU: ACMS and DAR) or a three function (FDIMU: mandatory
recording, ACMS and DAR) unit, depending on the configuration of the
aircraft. The unit can be installed as a stand-alone FDIMU on new
aircraft, or can replace the DMU + DAR (the mandatory function is
inhibited) on aircraft already equipped with a FDIU.
With this selection, Teledyne Controls will become the only vendor able
to supply the fully integrated, three-function data acquisition and
recording system for both single aisle (A318, A319, A320, and A321) and
long range (A330 and A340) families, for future deliveries.
