Japan Airlines Modernizes 747-Classics fleet with Teledyne Data Acquisition Units
LOS ANGELES – October 1, 2002 – Teledyne Controls, a Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY) company, announced today that Japan Airlines (JAL) has selected Teledyne’s Digital Flight Data Acquisition Units (DFDAU) and test equipment to modernize its fleet of Boeing 747-200/-300 aircraft.

Teledyne Controls’ DFDAU is designed to ensure compliance with current FAA and European JAR-OPS requirements by acquiring data and formatting it for output to mandatory Digital Flight Data Recorders (DFDR). Teledyne’s DFDAU also records non-mandatory raw and message (reports) data and outputs data to the ground for analysis via ACARS / QAR (Quick Access Recorder) / wireless infrastructure, as well as to peripheral systems such as printers or a display. This data is used for aircraft and engine trend monitoring functions, aircraft maintenance, and in support of proactive safety programs such as flight operations quality assurance (FOQA).
