company (NYSE: TDY), is pleased to announce that American Airlines has chosen the Teledyne Controls Communications Management Unit (CMU) for retrofit installation on selected MD-80 aircraft.
“This announcement, when combined with other airlines recently selecting the Teledyne CMU, is a clear indication that Teledyne has re-established itself as a market leader in air/ground data link technology” said Mr. George E. Simmons, Vice-President of Marketing, Sales and Service for Teledyne Controls.
The Teledyne CMU will replace existing ACARS MU’s and Mark2 CMU’s to provide traditional ACARS data link capability, as well as non-traditional CMU capabilities such as Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS) reporting and Quick Access Recording (QAR), which are functions typically provided by the data acquisition and recording system on newer digital aircraft.
Available for either ARINC 724B or 758 installations, the Teledyne CMU is the latest generation airborne data link management unit designed to manage jet transport aircraft air/ground messaging in support of Airline Operational Control (AOC) and CNS/ATM requirements. The Teledyne CMU currently supports messaging over the 31.5K bps VHF Digital Link (VDL) Mode-2 air/ground network, as well as VDL Mode-0 and Mode-A 2.4K bps legacy ACARS network protocols. In the future, The Teledyne CMU will be upgradeable to provide CPDLC messaging capability over the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network (ATN) via an on-wing router software change.
