Freebird Airlines Receives Operational Approval of Teledyne Controls' EFB Applications
El Segundo, CA - March 18, 2011 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Turkish charter operator Freebird Airlines received operational approval of Teledyne's Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) software applications. Teledyne's EFB applications will run on the navAero's t Bag™C22 Class 2 EFB equipment installed on Freebird Airlines' fleet of Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft. Teledyne's EFB applications together with the navAero EFB will streamline Freebird's flight deck operations and facilitate information exchange between onboard EFBs and back office ground-based networks.
Freebird Airlines received approval from the Turkish regulatory agency to operate Teledyne's suite of EFB applications. The suite includes Flight Manager, which provides an integrated operating system for the software suite, as well as Document Viewer, Performance Tool, Weight & Balance, and Forms Manager. Also included in their package is the ground-based LRU Configuration Manager (LCM), which provides EFB configuration control and facilitates bi-directional electronic transfer of data between EFBs and ground systems
"Freebird's ability to obtain the very first operational approval for EFB from the Turkish regulator is a big accomplishment that they will find very beneficial to their EFB flight deck operations," said Mark Collishaw, Teledyne Controls' Sales and Service Manager for Southern Europe. "Teledyne Controls has worked tirelessly to help ensure that Freebird's EFB project is a success. We look forward to many years of supporting Freebird Airlines as they enhance and expand their usage of our EFB applications."
"We are pleased that we received operational approval to use Teledyne's applications on our EFBs," said Captain Auke van Ginkel, Freebird Airlines' EFB Administrator. "We selected Teledyne's EFB applications and sought operational approval to run them on our Class 2 EFB hardware because we liked the software's easy to use interface and navigation. Freebird Airlines also chose Lido e-Route Manual to complete the navigational charts. The combination of Teledyne's applications, Lido's e-Route Manual and navAero's system sets new standards in Class 2 EFBs, and I believe it is the most advanced and reliable Class 2 EFB flying today."
"navAero is extremely pleased that Freebird Airlines received operational approval of Teledyne's suite of applications hosted on our EFB hardware platform," stated Simone Giordano, navAero Vice President, Customer Relations. "As one of our newest EFB customers, Freebird has clearly shown the benefits of deploying our robust and cost-effective EFB. Our hardware solution, coupled with Teledyne's applications, has brought Freebird an affordable business tool that will allow them to improve productivity and operating efficiency. Our collaboration with Teledyne clearly demonstrates our desire to work with industry leaders and provide customers with integrated solutions that meet their requirements and fulfill their business needs."
Teledyne's EFB software can be installed on any onboard EFB hardware and increases the EFB's functionality. This integration makes it easy for operators to access a wealth of information and provides tools on the flight deck that replace time-consuming paper-based methods to improve information accuracy and flight crew productivity.
Teledyne will be showcasing its suite of EFB applications in Istanbul, Turkey on March 22, 2011.
