Belgian Carrier Jetairfly Selects Teledyne Controls' Wireless Quick Access Recorder (WQAR) to Support Aircraft-to-Ground Wireless Data Transfer

El Segundo, CA - October 13, 2009 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Jetairfly, the Belgian arm of the TUI Airlines group, has selected Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink® Quick Access Recorder (WQAR) for retrofit installation on six Boeing 737 and two Boeing 767 aircraft. The WQAR will enable Jetairfly to wirelessly transfer flight data and enhance their Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) program. Delivery is scheduled for Q4 2009.

Jetairfly's selection of the WQAR was based on the system's new Download on Demand (DoD) feature. This function will allow Jetairfly to remotely command flight data download whenever they need earlier access to their data, regardless of airport destination, designated hub or gate connectivity. With the WQAR's DoD capability, the airline can collect critical flight data much faster from almost any airport worldwide.

"We selected the WQAR to resolve time delays associated with recovering and reviewing our aircraft data in a timely manner after flights," said Frank Baetens, Jetairfly's Safety Manager. "In recent months, we operated numerous flights out of Belgian regional airports and encountered significant delays in transferring the data cards from these airports to our office at Brussels National Airport. Data from these flights arrived at the Safety Department with a delay of several days, which made Management realize that we needed to access our FDM data faster. With Teledyne's WQAR and its DoD function, we will be able to retrieve our flight data after every flight, even when our aircraft land in remote airports away from our main hub."

"We are pleased that Jetairfly recognized the value of our WQAR solution to enhance their FOQA program," said Hans-Juergen Neufert, Teledyne Controls' Senior Manager of Sales and Service for the European region. "Wireless cellular data transfer along with the DoD feature, relieves the manual process and time required to traditionally recover and process aircraft data, significantly streamlining their flight data monitoring process for quicker access to their flight data."

Teledyne's Wireless GroundLink QAR is designed to provide operators with an immediate, reliable and cost-effective solution for transmitting data from the aircraft to the airline's back office. The WQAR offers unprecedented end-to-end system reliability with observed data recovery rates close to 100 percent of all flights flown. The raw data recorded during flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis. With the WQAR solution, airlines can significantly reduce data delivery delays since the data is typically available within 10-15 minutes after an aircraft has landed, versus several days or weeks with manual data retrieval. In addition to routine automated data transfer, the WQAR can also transfer data in unscheduled out-of-network conditions with its Download on Demand (DoD) feature. DoD allows operators to send a one-time SMS text message command to the aircraft's WQAR unit to activate immediate data download from almost any airport in the world back to the airline's home base. This function allows timely retrieval of critical flight data, which can alleviate physical inspection of the aircraft and significantly reduce delays related resolving Aircraft On Ground (AOG) issues.

Selected by 66 operators, the Wireless GroundLink QAR is the system of choice for airlines worldwide. This innovative wireless system has been certified on numerous aircraft types and is flying on over 1,700 aircraft. Additionally, it's available factory fit from Boeing and Airbus and is delivered on almost 30% of all new B737NG, B777, and A320, A330, A340 and A380 aircraft.
