El Segundo, CA - April 29, 2008 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Aeroflot Russian Airlines has selected Teledyne's Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) system for installation on its fleet of A320 and B767, encompassing a total of 56 aircraft. Teledyne Controls' EFB will be instrumental in enabling Aeroflot's crewmembers to access crucial information on the flight deck and leverage Jeppesen's Navigational solution in all phases of flight.
Teledyne will supply all EFB hardware components, along with the associated aircraft installation kits, including certification. The EFB deployment is expected to start at the end of Q2 2008.
Designed to be used in all phases of flight - including take off and landing, the Teledyne Class 2 EFB solution features ruggedized COTS (Commercial off The Shelf) equipment built to withstand harsh environments. The EFB package chosen by Aeroflot consists of a Processor Unit (PU), a 10.4 inch tethered Display Unit (DU), and their associated mounts.
The Teledyne PU is based on standard PC component architecture and utilizes the Microsoft Windows Operating System, therefore greatly facilitating future upgrades and expansion. Designed for a "quick-release" mount system, the PU can be installed and removed from the aircraft very easily.
The DU is a high resolution touch screen monitor that provides exceptional clarity for the user and is readable under a variety of lighting conditions. It includes user controls for power and brightness, as well as a USB port for portable devices, such as USB memory sticks, CD ROMs, and Keyboards.
The Aeroflot aircraft will be equipped with two Teledyne EFB systems, one each in the Captain and the First Officer positions.
