El Segundo, CA - March 4, 2008 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Mexican low-cost airline Interjet has selected Teledyne Controls' Flight Data Interface Management Unit (FDIMU) and Wireless GroundLink® Quick Access Recorder (WQAR) to support Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) on its entire fleet of A320 aircraft. Interjet is the first Latin American carrier deploying Teledyne's proven wireless technology to streamline its flight data monitoring processes.
Used together, the Teledyne FDIMU and Wireless GroundLink QAR are designed to provide Interjet with a seamless and automated solution for data acquisition and retrieval. Installed onboard Interjet's A320 aircraft, the Teledyne FDIMU will perform the flight data acquisition, aircraft condition monitoring and recording functions, while the Wireless GroundLink system ensures the secure transmission of the data to the airline's ground station for data processing and analysis.
"Interjet has selected the Wireless GroundLink QAR to overcome various difficulties of flight data information retrieval when an event occurs, and to eliminate the lost time between retrieving a media disk and the analysis of the events," said Víctor Santillán Torres, Interjet Avionics Engineering. "Teledyne's Wireless GroundLink system gives us the capability of receiving flight data after every landing and automatically analyzing it, regardless of the aircraft operating station, since it can wirelessly transmit data at any airport, without requiring any manual retrieval. Another significant factor in our selection was the ability to implement Teledyne's Wireless solution on both our new and existing A320 fleet, and therefore standardizing the equipment on board," added Mr. Santillán Torres.
While Teledyne will work with Interjet on retrofitting the Airline's classic fleet, all new A320 aircraft delivered by Airbus will be fitted with Teledyne's FDIMU and Wireless GroundLink QAR, configured for transmission in Mexico.
"Interjet is a dynamic and growing low-cost carrier in Mexico and we are very pleased to help them implement a robust FOQA program," said Anas Bennani, Teledyne Controls' Manager of Sales & Service for Latin America. "The Teledyne FDIMU and Wireless GroundLink QAR will lay a solid foundation for Interjet's long-term flight data monitoring needs."
The Teledyne FDIMU is a compact and integrated system that combines mandatory data acquisition and recording functions with a fully-programmable ACMS (Aircraft Condition Monitoring System) processing capability. The FDIMU offers extensive flexibility, enabling users to specify the parameters they need for flight data monitoring, maintenance and operational efficiency, without the artificial constraints often imposed by traditional data management systems. Installed at over 100 operators' worldwide, the FDIMU has proved to be a highly reliable system. It is available for installation on the Airbus Single Aisle A319/A320/A321 and Long Range A330/A340 aircraft families, allowing operators with multiple aircraft types to utilize the same ACMS technology and programming tool across their fleet.
The Wireless GroundLink® Quick Access Recorder is an innovative device designed to provide operators with an immediate, reliable and cost-effective solution for transmitting data from the aircraft to the airline's back office. The WQAR offers unprecedented end-to-end system reliability with observed data recovery rates close to 100 percent of all sectors flown. Using a Teledyne proprietary protocol, the raw data recorded during flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the Internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis. With the Teledyne Wireless GroundLink solution, airlines can significantly reduce data delivery delays since the data is typically available within 10-15 minutes after an aircraft has landed, versus several days or weeks with manual data retrieval. Additional operational benefits are realized since human resources, equipment costs and data-loss associated with manual retrieval methods are virtually eliminated.
Selected by 43 operators worldwide, the Teledyne Wireless GroundLink solution is flying on over 900 aircraft and has been certified on numerous aircraft types. It is available factory fit from Boeing on the B777 and B737NG and from Airbus on A320 family, A330, A340 and A380 aircraft types.
The FDIMU and Wireless GroundLink system are an integral part of Teledyne's end-to-end aircraft data management solutions. Designed to assist airlines with their FDM/ FOQA (Flight Operations Quality Assurance) initiatives, these offerings include innovative airborne data acquisition products, air-to-ground wireless data transfer systems and ground-based applications and services that fit together to deliver greater benefits to the operators and provide the total solution they need for a successful flight safety program.
