LOS ANGELES, CA - January 9, 2007 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that UPS, the global leader in package delivery, has ordered Teledyne Controls' integrated Data Management Unit (iDMU) for installation on its new fleet of B747-400 freighters. Teledyne's iDMU will provide UPS with a compact and reliable solution for aircraft condition monitoring and data recording.
Designed to meet the extensive data monitoring requirements of modern digital aircraft, Teledyne Controls' iDMU is a new-generation data management system that succeeds the Teledyne legacy DMU (Data Management Unit), already used by more than twenty-five operators, in over 700 installations. Integrating the latest technology, the iDMU delivers increased performance, while significantly reducing the circuit card count, which results in higher reliability, reduced weight and lower maintenance costs. The iDMU accepts data from a variety of data acquisition systems and its enhanced ACMS (Aircraft Condition Monitoring System) function facilitates aircraft/engine performance monitoring in addition to daily flight operations monitoring. The iDMU features a user-programmable interface that allows airlines to customize their own ACMS applications. It also integrates a data recording function via PC Card media, offering operators the additional benefits of a multi-function system into a single unit, such as reduced space and lower power consumption.
