LOS ANGELES, CA - July 24, 2006 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Aegean Airlines has chosen to install Teledyne Controls' FDIMU (Flight Data Interface Management Unit) on its new A320 aircraft fleet. The Greek regional carrier, which recently ordered 17 A320s, with 6 more on option, will use the Teledyne multi-function unit to perform flight data acquisition, aircraft condition monitoring and data recording.
"Aegean Airlines' decision was based on Teledyne's longstanding reputation for Flight Data Management and particularly on the technological features of the FDIMU. We currently use Teledyne's units on our 737s and we are very happy with the reliability of these units. We also believe that the FDIMU can also successfully support Aegean Airlines' needs for Flight Data Monitoring," said Dimitris Papageorgiou, Avionics and Development Engineer at Aegean Airlines.
"Aegean Airlines is one of the most dynamic airlines in the Mediterranean area and we welcome the opportunity to expand our relationship with them," said Hans-Juergen Neufert, Teledyne Controls' Senior Manager of Sales and Service for the European region. "They have been using our data acquisition equipment for several years now, and we are delighted that they selected the Teledyne unit to equip their new A320 aircraft."
Chosen by over 85 operators worldwide, Teledyne Controls' FDIMU is a compact and integrated data acquisition and recording system available for installation on the Airbus Single Aisle A319/A320/A321 and Long Range A330/A340 aircraft families. Based on Teledyne's concept of LRU Compression , the FDIMU combines into a single Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) the multiple functions of traditionally separated systems. By fulfilling the functions of the Flight Data Interface Unit (FDIU) used for mandatory data acquisition, the Data Management Unit (DMU) that performs engine/aircraft condition monitoring, and the Digital Access Recorder (DAR), the FDIMU can literally replace up to three LRUs, allowing operators to reduce weight, wiring and rack space, and make significant savings on initial equipment cost.
