LOS ANGELES, CA - March 8, 2005 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that LTU, one of the largest German airlines, has placed an order for AQD (Aviation Quality Database), a comprehensive and integrated software tool designed to support Safety Management and Quality Assurance processes. One of the first European airlines to implement a fully integrated Safety Management System (SMS), LTU will rely on AQD to facilitate occurrence data collection, incident investigation, and corrective action tracking.
"AQD will be instrumental in integrating and sharing our flight safety, incident analysis and quality assurance information in one place," said Mr. Matthias Mäder, Captain Airbus Flight Safety Manager at LTU. "Moreover, AQD offers an efficient tool for occurrence reporting. Through electronic data entry forms that can be tailored to our specific needs, we will be able to report any type of event, either online via the AQD web interface, or off-line from a laptop." Another selection criterion for LTU was that AQD supports both EU incident reporting requirements and participation in IATA's (International Air Transport Association) Safety Trend Evaluation Analysis & Data Exchange System (STEADES), a data system collected from participating airlines to identify accident precursors and improve airline safety.
"Teledyne Controls is very pleased to assist LTU in their safety and Quality Assurance initiatives," said Hans-Juergen Neufert, Teledyne Controls' Senior Manager of Sales and Service for the Europe region. "AQD constitutes a significant element in flight safety programs. It facilitates data integration and action tracking, allowing operators to make full use of their flight data analysis findings and tackle identified issues more efficiently."
An additional offering to Teledyne Controls' Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) solutions, AQD provides a powerful data system that combines Quality Assurance with traditional flight safety concepts. AQD gathers incident and other occurrence reports together with internal and external quality and safety audits, therefore giving a broad, organization-wide view of issues. Through a comprehensive set of tools, AQD manages the process of analysis, allocation of actions, follow-up and reporting to achieve the desired improvement in performance. By helping understand the root causes of quality and safety deficiencies, and ensuring an ongoing focus on corrective actions, AQD can guide operators to continuously improve safety and efficiency and help them comply with JAR Ops Quality Assurance and FAA Best Practice Requirements. Distributed by Teledyne Controls and developed by Superstructure, AQD is backed by the combined expertise of two aviation systems specialists.
