Ryanair Selects Teledyne Controls' Flight Data Monitoring Solution.

LOS ANGELES, CA - March 2, 2004 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY) announced today that Ryanair, Europe's number one low fare airline, has selected Teledyne's end-to-end Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) Solution to supplement its existing flight safety program. As the sole source supplier, Teledyne Controls will provide Ryanair with DFDAUs (Digital Flight Data Acquisition Unit) for flight data acquisition, Wireless GroundLink® (Wireless Quick Access Recorder - WQAR) for data recording and transmission, and Teledyne Flight Data Monitoring (FDM) Services for data analysis and reporting.

This announcement comes on the heels of Ryanair's completion of a successful trial of Teledyne's WQAR. "With 100% data recovery, the Wireless GroundLink trial validated our expectations of the system's operations, " said Michael Hickey, director of engineering at Ryanair. "When we decided to implement a world class flight safety program as part of our ongoing commitment to safety, we chose Teledyne because we realized it made sense to partner with an organization that could provide the total package-all hardware, software and services necessary to support a comprehensive Flight Data Monitoring program," added Hickey.

Teledyne Controls' end-to-end FDM solution will constitute an integral part of Ryanair's flight safety program, a quality assurance process designed to improve operations and increase safety through the analysis of flight data on a routine basis. "We are very excited to work with Ryanair to develop a comprehensive Flight Data Monitoring program that meets the ICAO international standard and is expected to become a mandate in Europe in 2005," said Warren Hechinger, Teledyne Controls' director of sales and service for Europe and CIS.

Teledyne Controls' DFDAU completes the first task of the FDM process, which consists of acquiring flight data from the aircraft. Designed to meet OEM specifications, the DFDAU is an advanced Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS) that can be interchangeable across multiple aircraft types. Its ACMS Software, which offers extensive flexibility, enables users to specify the parameters they need for FDM, maintenance, and operational efficiency, without the artificial constraints usually imposed by other software systems.

Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink fulfills the data recording and data transmission FDM functions. Offering unprecedented reliability, the WQAR records and wirelessly transfers flight data from the aircraft to the ground, without any media handling and human intervention. The raw data recorded during the flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the Internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing. The WQAR is designed to reduce data delivery delays (the data is available within 10-15 minutes, versus several days or weeks with manual data retrieval), cut human and equipment costs associated with manual data retrieval, and eliminate data loss that can reach 30% with conventional manual methods.

Teledyne's Flight Data Monitoring Services complete the FDM loop process with comprehensive data analysis and reporting. Teledyne Controls' Data Center processes and analyzes the flight data provided by the Airline and delivers regular reports back to the customer. The airline can also access its own data to validate events. 3 Dimensional flight data animation and FDM Pilot consultation are available as well, depending on the level of FDM service.
