Lufthansa Enhances Flight Data Monitoring Program With Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink®

LOS ANGELES, CA - November 4, 2004 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that leading European carrier Lufthansa has selected Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink® (Wireless Quick Access Recorder - WQAR) for use on its Airbus A320 aircraft fleet. In support of Lufthansa's continuing effort to enhance operations and increase safety, Teledyne's WQAR will assist the German airline to replace traditional manual data retrieval procedures using a reliable automated data recording and wireless transmission system.

The raw data recorded during the flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the Internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis. Using the Teledyne Wireless GroundLink® system, the airlines can reduce data delivery delays (the data is available within 10-15 minutes after an aircraft has landed, versus several days or weeks with manual data retrieval), cut human and equipment costs associated with manual data retrieval, and eliminate data loss that can reach 30% with conventional manual methods.
