Lufthansa Enhances Flight Data Monitoring Program With Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink®

LOS ANGELES, CA - November 4, 2004 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that leading European carrier Lufthansa has selected Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink® (Wireless Quick Access Recorder - WQAR) for use on its Airbus A320 aircraft fleet. In support of Lufthansa's continuing effort to enhance operations and increase safety, Teledyne's WQAR will assist the German airline to replace traditional manual data retrieval procedures using a reliable automated data recording and wireless transmission system.

"Teledyne Controls is pleased to collaborate with an aviation leader like Lufthansa on enhancing its Flight Data Monitoring capabilities," said Warren Hechinger, Teledyne Controls' director of sales and service for the European region. "The WQAR is a service proven system that has consistently shown outstanding data recovery rates. We are hopeful that Lufthansa will extend the installation of our Wireless GroundLink® technology to its existing long range fleets and perhaps to its new A380 aircraft," added Hechinger.

A significant element in safety management and aircraft maintenance programs, Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink® is designed to provide aircraft operators with an immediate, reliable, and cost-effective solution for data recording and transmission. Offering unprecedented reliability, the GroundLink system is designed to record and wirelessly transfer flight data from the aircraft to the ground, without any media handling and human intervention. The raw data recorded during the flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the Internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis. Using the Teledyne Wireless GroundLink® system, the airlines can reduce data delivery delays (the data is available within 10-15 minutes after an aircraft has landed, versus several days or weeks with manual data retrieval), cut human and equipment costs associated with manual data retrieval, and eliminate data loss that can reach 30% with conventional manual methods.
