Jetstar Selects Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink® for Data Transmission

LOS ANGELES, CA - September 20, 2004 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), announced today that Qantas' new low fare airline Jetstar has selected Teledyne's Wireless GroundLink® for the recording and transmission of its flight data information. The purchase agreement between Teledyne Controls and Jetstar includes a firm order for 20 A320 aircraft, plus options.

"We are pleased to expand our partnership with Qantas through their Jetstar subsidiary," said George Casper, Teledyne Controls' director of Sales and Service for the Asia/Pacific region. "This new order results from the successful Wireless GroundLink trial that was underway at Qantas for several months, and that showed a consistently outstanding data recovery rate."

A significant element in safety management and aircraft maintenance programs, Teledyne Controls' Wireless GroundLink® is designed to provide aircraft operators with an immediate, reliable, and cost-effective solution for data transmission. The GroundLink system records and wirelessly transfers flight data from the aircraft to the ground, without any media handling and human intervention. The raw data recorded during the flight is compressed, encrypted and then transmitted via cellular technology and the Internet to the airline's or Teledyne's ground-based data center for processing and analysis. Using the Teledyne Wireless GroundLink system, the airlines can reduce data delivery delays (the data is available within 10-15 minutes after an aircraft has landed, versus several days or weeks with manual data retrieval), cut human and equipment costs associated with manual data retrieval, and eliminate data loss that can reach 30% with conventional manual methods.
