Teledyne Controls Receives FAA Certification for Cabin Surveillance and EFB Solution on B777

LOS ANGELES, CA - June 28, 2004 - Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY), has recently received FAA Supplemental Type Certification (STC) and Parts Manufacturing Approval (PMA) for a cabin surveillance and Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) solution that is under evaluation on a Boeing 777-200.

"This is a major milestone in our continual effort to deliver innovative aircraft information solutions, including those addressing security for cabin passengers and flight crews," said Scot Carpenter, technical business development manager for Teledyne Controls.

The cabin surveillance system consists of two Teledyne Controls' EFB's that serve as viewing devices. Both are connected to an installed video server and camera system through Teledyne's 8-port Ethernet switch. The various cameras, strategically located in the cabin, transmit a constant video stream to the video server which passes the imagery to the EFBs. Displaying the cabin activities in real-time enables the flight deck crew to detect any suspicious behaviors. Through Teledyne's cabin surveillance viewing application, custom camera views and navigation schemes can be specified to include single, multiple, split and tiled window views.

The Teledyne Controls' EFB solution that was certified consists of a Multi-Purpose Aircraft Computer (MPAC), a display unit and a software viewing application. The MPAC is a ruggedized Intel Pentium class computer, based on a modular architecture allowing for multiple configurations and usages. The MPAC connects either to Teledyne's 10.4-inch or 8.4-inch tethered cockpit-mounted display, or any other standard display equipment.

Teledyne's EFB product line also includes solutions based on Walkabout's Tablet computers. Using Teledyne's certified docking solution, these Pentium® processor tablets running Windows XP can easily be docked and undocked, allowing operators to rapidly deploy a solution to the fleet. This type of EFB solution is in service on Boeing 737 NGs, 747-200/300/400 and DC-10 series aircraft, as well as Airbus A319/320/321 aircraft. Another of Teledyne's popular EFB offerings is the Pilot Access Terminal (PAT) with its certified docking station. This commercial-off-the-shelf laptop computer, used by flight crews for accessing a suite of applications is designed to greatly improve the level of information available in the airplane and on the ground. Open and flexible, the various EFB solutions can integrate a wide range of flight deck applications, including onboard performance, aeronautical charts, graphical weather, and an electronic documentation browser capable of displaying flight operations manuals, equipment lists, operating procedures, and many other airlines documents.
